Happy New Year, friends!
It’s been a little quiet around the Broomfield Democrats (virtual) headquarters since the election, and we hope you’ve all had a peaceful couple of months just like us.
The Broomfield Dems is an entirely volunteer-run organization and occasionally that means everyone needs some serious down-time, especially after a long and exhausting (and contentious!) election season like 2023 turned out to be. With an eye towards 2024 and how vital this election season will be, and the effort and time required to make caucus and assembly happen, we decided to close up shop for a bit and give everyone a rest. What this meant in practice was no website updates, no emails, no social media action.
But it’s a fresh new year on the books and we’re rested and ready to roll! Website updates are happening as we speak, events are being added to the calendar, and the planning sessions are ramping up!
We are going to be reaching out to YOU in the coming months to ask for your time and support in helping the Broomfield County Democrats organization grow bigger, stronger, and better than ever. We will once again be opening a physical office in the months before election day, hitting the sidewalks to knock doors and meet our neighbors, and reaching out to the community in a wide variety of fun events and opportunities.
Keep an eye out for February’s newsletter with the full calendar of events and volunteer options! We will also be sending a separate email for full caucus and assembly details as well – we are holding caucus on Zoom again this year, hopefully easing the stress and effort on all participants and volunteers by eliminating the need for travel and time commitments required by in-person caucus.
Here’s to making 2024 a Happy Blue Year,
Sasha Davis, Vice Chair

Coloradans for Protecting Reproductive Freedom Fundraiser
Thursday, February 1st, 6:00 – 7:30pm
To RSVP and Donate please click HERE.
Address will be provided upon RSVP.
The Coloradans for Protecting Reproductive Freedom mission is driven by the belief that someone’s job or insurance should not dictate the ability to access abortion care. Currently, teachers, firefighters, other state and local public employees (including you), and those enrolled in state health insurance plans are banned from having abortion coverage, a form of health care discrimination we intend to address with this ballot measure. They are running a 2024 constitutional amendment to protect abortion from government interference. This measure is more than just a statement—it is a commitment to providing meaningful access to abortion services for those currently without it.
They will be hosting a series of events across Colorado to kick off the campaign the week of January 22nd because January 22, 2024, is the 51st Anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade Decision. The U.S. Supreme Court overturned that decision, so now we must ensure our rights on a state-by-state basis.
To qualify for the 2024 ballot, the campaign must gather 185,000 signatures by April 25th, 2024. Although the campaign anticipates an extensive volunteer signature collection effort, the paid signature collection will be needed to ensure that this ballot measure meets the requirements to get on the ballot. The estimate is paid signature-gathering effort will cost around $2.7 million.
As you know, early contributions set the stage for a winning campaign in any election year. This is particularly so when, as here, the proposal seeks to amend the Colorado Constitution rather than statute because of the increased demands Colorado places on petition circulation for constitutional amendments.
They are hosting a fundraising event on Thursday, February 1st at the home of Broomfield Mayor Guyleen Castriotta starting at 6:00pm. We think it is shaping up to be a wonderful evening and would love to see you there. Will you attend and contribute to this event to help with this important work? To RSVP and Donate please click HERE. Address will be provided upon RSVP.
If you are interested in collecting petitions, please follow the link HERE.
If you want to donate via check, please make it out to “Coloradans for Protecting Reproductive Freedom” and send it to the campaign at PO Box 271154 Louisville, CO 80027. Donated amounts to the committee are not subject to contribution limits and are not tax deductible.
If you have any questions about the fundraiser, contact Colin Hornsby at colin@bluemountainstrategies.net or 303-875-3462.
